Default School St flats

Can somebody confirm my memory that the school St flats never had a lift? I lived there till I was a bout 5 and I can't remember ever using a lift.

I can remember the very dark stairwells and the zig zag ramps for prams & pushairs but no lift.

Thumbs up Re: School St flats

School Streets flats are long since gone, yet only recently I was talking to a group of Senior Gentlemen, who can recall when the Flats got built.
During the conversation one mentioned how many of the old houses bit the dust, and some of the families moved into the Flats. ( A good community was broke up, he said)
Bathrooms and inside Toilets and Central Heating being just a few of the luxury features.
Laughing out loud..he was wondering what folk did with all those old fashioned tin baths..when another chap said..aahh!! they came in handy down at the Allotments.

Did you by chance live in the School Street Flats? Or maybe you can remember the old tin baths..and the outside WC in the old houses ( aahh!! the winter months) If you can then please do post a message within this thread. No prizes for the best funny story, but its just a great way to recall past ways of life.

When I got married (1983) we lived in the flats for a year, then they pulled them down. But what I do remember, they had a community that was 2nd to none, but even back then everybody knew each other. And thats right there was no lifts, but trying to get a three piece suite up them stairs..
